I think next year, if I do Yuletide, I'll request a story about ghosts in the White House. I was reading about the various sightings people claim to have had there. It would be especially cool if the fic was a supernatural thriller about the ghosts tormenting Trump. Hehehehe.

Tough week

I miss the days of Livejournal. I would update multiple times a day.

Yuletide is coming up again. I don't think I'll sign up this year, but I'll keep my eye out for prompts I might want to write treats for.

The Passport in Time project was...hard. I would say it was okay, not what I'd call fun, but all right. I had a meltdown when I got home due to problems in the family, but things are better now. A full, relaxing weekend would be nice. I really only got a partial weekend this time. Doing artsy stuff and reading and writing would be great, if I could get myself away from mindlessly browsing the internet and getting nothing done. Or cleaning my bathroom. It seems I clean my bathroom every freaking weekend because somehow it gets mucked up when I'm gone. People only use the toilet, so how does the floor--oh, that's right. The cat. He tracks in litter when he goes to drink out of the toilet and leaves paw prints everywhere.

On the bright side, I managed to start a new book and do a little writing. Just lately I haven't had the heart or emotional energy to do anything creative.

I got a new paper journal at Barnes and Noble. I was willing to spend a little more money on it, but I happened to choose a relatively cheap one by B&N standards. Maybe this will encourage me to write daily, since I've been slacking on doing that.

Thanksgiving went well.

I managed to "finish" my Yuletide assignment, meaning I gave it an ending, but it needs editing. Bad. I'm trying to work on a treat, too.

Recently I started considering doing a photo-a-day challenge thing, but I have yet to find one I like. I don't like the monthly ones because it'll be December soon and those ones are too Christmas-themed. I also don't like ones where I have to take a picture of myself. Call me insecure, because I probably am, but I just really don't like taking selfies.

Hopeful

Slowly putting along with my Yuletide assignment. I've broken 1000 words but it'll be longer.

I'm hoping to do some treats, too. Last year I didn't do anything besides the assignment because it was my first year and I was testing the waters. Right now I have my eye on a fandom to write a treat for, and I might try the drabble challenge, too. I'm a bit excited to write the treat!

Writing lately has been difficult. It's like I have writer's block but...not really?

Dear Yuletide Writer,

This is my second year participating in Yuletide, and I’m optimistic for this round!

Likes: Fluff, relationships (friendship, romantic (het), or familial), introspective, retrospective, characters observing something about someone or something, comedy, banter, awkward situations, action/adventure, character background development, original characters (I’d be lying if I said I didn’t like them, since I write them myself!), gen, romance.

Okay with: Violence (but not gory), suggestive situations.

Does not like: Graphic sex/smut, slash, AU, character deaths, character abuse, tragedy.

Requested Fandoms

Fandom: Et Cetera (Manga)

Characters Requested: Baskerville | Razy Bone, Benkate

I consider this series to be my ultimate guilty pleasure. I am way out of its target audience, but it’s dorky, ridiculous, but oh so much fun. There is a lot of potential for shipping between characters. The activity in the fandom is past its peak, and having gotten into the fandom late, I feel like I’m the only one left. Fanfiction for this fandom was sparse, until I was inspired—thanks to this fandom—to write again. But it would be fantastic to hear another voice again besides my own.

If maybe you find Benkate and Baskerville interesting as a pairing, I’m cool with that, too! I’ve written a fic with that pairing as well, just to try it out, and I’ve discovered that others have found the pairing appealing.

******
Fandom: The Virginian – Owen Wister

Characters Requested: Jeff "The Virginian", Molly Stark Wood
(I really wish the Yuletide team hadn't listed him as Jeff. That's not really his name. :( )

So I’m not usually into romances, let alone romance in westerns, my favorite genre, but this one… Something about the romance in this novel just about killed me, I loved it so much. Maybe it just touched on my likes/preferences/guilty pleasures somehow. And it helped that the Virginian was quite possibly one of the sexiest characters I’ve ever read in literature.  I was happy to read he and Molly had kids in the end, though we know nothing about them except the oldest son still rides Monte. I have a thing for father-child relationships and would love—LOVE—to see something between the Virginian and one of his kids. Or maybe you could write about the time his first child was born, and how he felt/reacted holding his child for the first time. One thing I always found interesting about the character was how he could be quite sensitive, even though he’s a “tough guy” too. I find men being dads to be one of the cutest things ever.

******
Fandom: The Big Valley

Characters Requested: Nick Barkley, Heath Barkley

I wanna see some bromance between Nick and Heath. Their relationship started off rocky but then improved quickly. I'd like to see Nick's thoughts on his growing relationship with Heath, how he sees Heath now compared to when they first met. Or maybe even the other way around, with Heath thinking about his relationship with Nick.

Thanks so much, Yuletide Writer! Good luck and have fun! 8D

Whoa, when was the last time I updated?

I'm struggling a bit with this Yuletide fic. I gave it an ending last night and decided I didn't like it. But now I'm trying to give it a different ending and I still don't like it. I'm afraid the whole fic might be boring. -_-; It's due in a week. I'm hoping I'll get a flash of inspiration between now and then. Can't believe it's already almost Christmas.

Dear Yuletide Writer,

This is my first year participating in Yuletide, so obviously I’m both excited and nervous! I hope to get something special this year, and to give something special in return.

Here is some information about me and my fandoms that you might find useful:

Likes: Fluff, relationships (friendship, romantic (het), or familial), introspective, retrospective, characters observing something about someone or something, comedy, banter, awkward situations, action/adventure, character background development, original characters (I’d be lying if I said I didn’t like them, since I write them myself!), gen, romance

Okay with: Violence (but not gory), suggestive situations.

Do not likes: Graphic sex/smut, slash (male or female), AU, character deaths, character abuse, tragedy.

Requested Fandoms

Fandom: Et Cetera (Manga)

Characters Requested: Baskerville | Razy Bone, Benkate

Optional Details: "Benkate seemed to be the only character without much of a background story, and I was always interested in her early clashes with Baskerville over rare guns. I would like either something about her first encounter with him or one of their early encounters."

Since I nominated only Baskerville and Benkate, this doesn’t mean other characters can’t make an appearance. ;) If maybe you find Benkate and Baskerville interesting as a pairing, I’m cool with that, too! I’ve written a fic with that pairing as well, just to try it out, and I’ve discovered that others have found the pairing appealing.

Fandom: 薬師アルジャン | Yakushi Argent | Apothecarius Argentum

Characters Requested: Argent (Apothecarius Argentum), Primula (Apothecarius Argentum), Soda (Apothecarius Argentum)

Optional Details: "I find Soda’s devotion to Argent to be adorable. His original intent was to find a cure for Argent’s poisonous condition and he really seems to look up to him. I’d like to see more of Soda’s point of view of Argent and Argent’s relationship with Primula."

I just love all the characters, major and minor. I’m so sad that I never got to see the end of this series because 1) the English publication stopped, and 2) the scanlations stopped. I have a feeling there was a happy ending, but after following the story for so long it would’ve been nice to see. ;_; There is only one fanfiction for this series I know of, and it was written by me. I don’t know what it is about this series that I love so much, and I usually hate romances. I think it’s the interesting and fun characters and some of the unusual decisions that are made in the story.

Fandom: Peace Maker (Manga)

Characters Requested: Mixie Banks, Nicola Crimson, Hope Emerson, Beat Gabriel

Optional Details: "I’m dying for some fluff here, either between Hope and Nicola or Beat and Mixie. It was suggested in the manga that Mixie was attracted to Beat, and it seemed so sudden that I had to wonder when it began. Something about that would be great."

One of the few manga I still read anymore, probably because of the “wild west” feel of the storyline, and for some reason I love westerns. The art can be so awesome, but I felt like there is a lot to explore in the relationships between the characters.

I nominated four characters because I either wanted something fun between Hope and Nicola, or something between Beat and Mixie, because it was suggested that Mixie was attracted to Beat and I found this interesting since romance seems nonexistent in the story—or at least so far in the story I’ve had a chance to read.

Fandom: Trinity Blood

Characters Requested: Abel Nightroad, Tres Iqus, Pietro Orsini (Brother Petros)

Optional Details: "The manga version of Brother Petros is by far my favorite in the series. I would love anything about him, especially in a comical situation. His interactions with Abel and others in the A.X. are so much fun."

The optional details speak for themselves. I tried once to write a fanfiction for this series and never did finish it.

Fandom: Juuni Kokki | Twelve Kingdoms

Characters Requested: Any

Optional Details: "I'd like to read about an unusual encounter with a kaikyaku."

'Nuff said. :D

Well, I hope that provides some good information for you, Yuletide Writer! Can't wait to see what I get! :)

Jobs again

Oct. 21st, 2014 10:26 am
silailo: (pencils)
It's been a rough five days or so. I had to take care of my niece last Friday and I tag-teamed it with my mom through the weekend and then I had to take care of the baby again yesterday. But on Saturday I started getting sick. I think I caught some sort of bug that's going around, but I didn't have a fever or anything. I thought it was food poisoning until my mom started getting sick, too. And all the while we were in direct contact with the baby.

I didn't have my mock interview last Wednesday like I had planned. Instead, I discussed with the counselor (I guess that's what she would be called) interviewing techniques and how to prepare for them. After talking with her for about forty-five minutes, we rescheduled my mock interview, and now it's tomorrow. This Friday I have an interview with Target, so the mock interview is just in time.

I got an email this morning--well, several, actually, from the post office about that seasonal position I applied for. The emails were about background checks, drug screening, etc., etc. I've been having to print stuff out, fill out paperwork, and I have a few things to I need to mail off. I tried to call to schedule an interview, but all I got was the message machine. I feel more comfortable having someone actually pick up, so I'll wait a little later and try again. All this pre-employment screening is a lot of work. But I'm excited! Especially after receiving a notice from USA Jobs yesterday about an archaeology internship I applied for, telling me I was ineligible, which I was already expecting anyway. I have yet to receive any interest in interviewing me for all the archaeology tech jobs I've applied for. I guess this is expected in the job market, but it's all new to me since this is the most intensive search I've ever done for a job like this. It's competitive, I know. There's probably more I can do to improve my cover letters and whatnot.

All this preparation, sickness, and caretaking over the past week has caused me to neglect studying for the GRE or do anything else. I need to sign up for Yuletide, but first I need to finish my DYW letter so I can include the link in my sign-up. I have until Sunday, so that's good.
