Went through the trouble of fixing images on this journal and elsewhere because I moved them to Imgur. I don't think I got everything, but I got the most important/interesting ones. Luckily I didn't have very many. Due to Photobucket's new, idiotic policy about image hosting, I decided--after being a member since 2003--to delete my account. I can't imagine what a nightmare it must be for people who have uploaded hundreds, if not thousands, of images to Photobucket, have them posted in various places like blogs, only for the images to be broken now because the user has to pay $400 a year.

I have a feeling Photobucket is going to backpedal hard on this one. If they don't, they're pretty much doomed.

But I don't regret leaving. Their website is horrible and I hate navigating it. I remember when it used to be ad-free and it was way easier to navigate. I can't tell if Imgur has ads because of my ad blocker, haha.

I know I have a photobucket, because my LJ background is on there, but I've had that background for nearly a decade and don't even know what email I might've used... Considering that I'm going to delete my LJ once I've cleaned it out, I guess it doesn't actually matter at all.

I've also heard about people unable to even log in and start rescuing their stuff without having to pay, which is just ridiculous.

Yeah, I had hundreds of images on photobucket that don't exist elsewhere because I uploaded them from my camera, and then lost my camera and sim card. I spent hours the night before last going through and downloading images I wanted to keep. What a pain in the ass. But I'm certain PB is doomed. They're scaring off most of their clientelle, and I suspect it's a last ditch effort to make themselves solvent. and even if it's not, it's going to kill them.

I admit I basically slack-jawed at their prices. I haven't used PB in a while, but I have some really old icons hosted there, but goddamn are they being pie in the sky on this one.

Especially since they don't even have ANY free tier for offsite hosting... so they've just eliminated a big part of their existing user base and guaranteed that no one new will sign up, because who wants to pay for service before they've had a chance to try it?
